fairfield after irene, owner observations

Post by abwjms »

we got in from Dover at about 1230. The drive down via rt1 and rt5 was without incident. We decided to skip rt30 since it's a little "country" and might have had downed trees/wires.

Cloudy, meanwhile it's sunny. No visible damage inside the unit, no water forced in by wind at the windows or sliding doors. No loose shingles or siding on a cursory trip around phase 1. Standing water in front of the woods, higher than normal high tide. Can't tell how far up the surge came, the pilings and bases for the deck supports don't look wetted. Everything powered up OK including the AC.

We got off easy ? Glad to be back and have it in one piece, hope all had similar good fortune.

Fairfield UPDATED - after the IRENE

Well we have made it to the other side of the storm. Fairfield, externally, has faired very well. Below is the list of external damage we found during our inspection of the community. Please remember that the presence, or lack, of external damage does not indicate the status of the interior of the home. Everyone should inspect the interior of their unit for any sign of leaks or other internal damage. The owner of the unit will be held responsible for any internal damage not reported within the next 7 days which results in a mold/mildew remediation situation.

At this time all travel restrictions have been lifted and everyone who has evacuated can feel free to return to the community. The tornado which touched down in Lewes near New Road was probably the most damaging event of the storm. It was amazing how quickly the Weather Channel received the picture of one of the affected homes after it was posted by a local on Facebook. Attached to this E-mail is a picture of the tornado taken from Five Points.

35745 S. Gloucester Downspout on left side is down
35757 S. Gloucester missing a shutter
37753 S. Gloucester cracked corner molding left side

35827 S. Gloucester Fascia blown off of top right dormer and piece of soffit missing, gutter on rear of unit loose

We are very happy to report this relatively good news considering what the damage could have been.

Thank You,
Doug Nichols
