conditions at FF following blizzards (weds 10feb) - pls post

Post by abwjms »

hoping all full-time residents are doing OK, we've heard about the state of emergency and no driving in DE, etc. We rolled in before the weekend storm and made sure everything was snug, rode it out on Saturday and drove home through the wonderland Sunday. Reading the DE news it sounds like another foot or so of snow and/or slop was added today.

If you're full-time residents at Long Neck, you'd be doing a great service to your neighbors if you'd take a moment to post a couple sentences about conditions, including
  • snow totals
  • ice buildup ?
  • current temps - is it above freezing and everything is melting, or below and all is a frozen mess
  • plowing state - have any drives been cleared yet (snow removal is exempt from the driving ban per newspaper)
  • power outages
  • concerns, incidents, etc.
  • anything else you think is important
The power outage Saturday morning raised the possibility of sprinkler freezup if power had not been restored, but thankfully DE Electric Coop was on it and had it back by noon. Hearing about any subsequent outages would be a big help.

We also noted that snow piled up quickly on the decks, and got motivated to shovel it off. Seems like reducing snow loads in general is a good thing if feasible.

It's tough to be concerned long-distance, and what with people, including both other unit owners and CPR, presumably being banned from the roads until the emergency is lifted, any channel for news in and out will be a big help. Those who are at FF are dealing with other more immediate concerns, hopefully not including power or heat (or food) but if you have the time, your posting of news here would be much appreciated.

Hi everyone,
Hope you stay warm. Got home on Tuesday night with anticipation another major snow storm and staying until weekend. So here what we got for this snow storm

1) About 12" of snow, blizzard condition, snow drift, no ice
2) No power out-stage
3) Temperature night 25F, day 30F - 32F
4) State road has not been cleared completely
5) Fairfield road has not been cleared by the contractor

I will be snowed-in for awhile. It is not advice to venture out. If you do, please dress warm and wear gloves/mittens.

Here of some information how to shovel snow and health risk associate with it
