Fairfield Community Neighborhood Watch - First meeting

First Neighborhood Watch Meeting

The first Fairfield Neighborhood Watch meeting was held at 26774 Chatham Lane Wednesday evening, February 4, 2009 at 7 pm. There were a total of eight people in attendance.

Trooper John McColgan of the Delaware State Police, Troop 7, gave the presentation. The items which he stressed are as follows:
1. Keep porch lights on front and back, whether you are a full or part-time resident.
2. Keep one or more inside lights on when house is unoccupied, preferably by a timer. (Houses should have a “lived in” look).
3. Do not leave doors unlocked or garage doors open, even if gone only a short time.
4. It is important that part-time residents leave a phone number with a neighbor, preferably one living here full-time, so they (the part-time resident) can be contacted if necessary.
5. All residents, part and full-time must be vigilant in observing what is going on in the neighborhood (example; unfamiliar vehicles or individuals) and report as necessary. All suspicious activity should be reported to the State Police at 302-644-5020. Officer McColgan stressed that one should not hesitate to call, if something looks suspicious.

Three additional items were discussed after Officer McColgan’s presentation;
A. Additional street lighting is needed in certain areas,
B. Since there is no playground, unsupervised children tend to run and play on other people’s property as well as defiling the wetlands and the pond.
C. The possible installation of Neighborhood Watch signs was discussed. This would be a matter for Council.

The meeting adjourned at 8:20 PM.

Delaware State Police Troop 7 Neighborhood Coordinators Meet

Post by tbhuynh »

To: Residents at Fairfield at Longneck
From: Malinda and Al Wolf – Neighborhood Watch Coordinators
Re: Delaware State Police Troop 7 Neighborhood Coordinators Meeting
Where: Lewis Senior Center
When: Feb l2, 2009

Message: The meeting was run by Captain Ron Hagan. He first thanked people for attending. He then gave statistics on criminal, traffic, and other issues related to the area. Incidentally, he said that, overall, the Rehoboth area is a safe area in which to live. There was then time for various Neighborhood Watch Coordinators to ask questions and tell about concerns. There is a number to call if you believe you see something “out of the ordinary”. It connects to Bob or Hugh, who are two volunteers who are connected with State Troop 7. The idea is to be able to coordinate area concerns. The number to call is: 302‐645‐5815. The next meeting will be the 2nd Tuesday in April from 7‐8. It is held at the Senior Center at Lewes. At that time Neighborhood Watch Coordinators will be able to do some networking with other Neighborhood Watch groups.

We are still looking into Neighborhood Watch signs to be posted in specific areas. Thanks for your continued interest in preventing crime at Fairfield.
